Could we ever cease being amazed at what God has done for us through the death of Jesus for us? Our sins are forgiven, and Christ has opened to us free access to the very presence of God. Take a moment to ponder what that means: God, who creates or destroys with a word … who sustains EVERYTHING allows us to enjoy His presence. Are you enjoying Him?
Familiarity with God can be dangerous, however; if we allow ourselves to reduce God to a glorified human being. If we are honest, we often think of Jesus as little more that a Superhero … maybe a ‘super’ Superhero. But … be honest … when was the last time you fell prostrate before your LORD “as though dead.” (1:17)
A.W. Tozer once said: “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” We do not honor Jesus by only thinking of Him as our “best friend.” He is our friend, yes, but He is much more than that! What John experienced when He saw the unveiled glory of the Friend upon whom he leaned back upon at the last supper (John 13:25) is what Isaiah experienced some 700 years earlier when he saw the LORD “high and lifted up” (Isaiah 6:1). Beth Moore said, “We have no idea of who we are dealing with.”
Brothers and sisters, make room in your heart to fall at His feet in reverence of His holiness.
